Fashion Photography

1. When is an image a portrait/fashion photography?

its a portrait when its more close up of their face and they aren't to posed but they can smile or decide what facial expression to have. Portraits are more personal to the person.

its a fashion photo when they are posing a lot more. They are normally a full body shot so you can see all the clothes and items they are wearing. Has no connection to what the model is actually like.

2. To what degree should an image manipulated to go into a fashion magazine?

The make up and hair is fine but when you get onto Photoshop you shouldn't edit the person for example change their face shape or make their neck longer or change there skin tone. You can change the brightness, contrast, sharpness but not over dramatically that it changes the person.

This is wrong because they have changed the skin tone and they have also changed they eyes. They have made the kid look more bruised and dirty.

3. Is there a clash between the creative and commercial side of fashion photography?

There is a clash between Grace Coddington(creative) and Anna wintour(commercial).

Anna took out some photos and took out a photo that Grace really liked the photo but Anna has full control over it so Grace cant do anything. Also when Anna takes out some photos it cancels out some of the model so you could say that Anna prefers some models to others and works better with them. Or maybe also so are paying more then others.
Anna wins because she has more control.
