Blur Tool
This is the original photo. Bertie is only slightly blurred out and its needs cropping.
This is how I've edited it. I've blurred Bertie out more (blur tool 80%) and I've cropped it so only the white backdrop is shown.
blur tool (sheep)
I used the blur tool. on the sky I used the blur tool (85%) on the mountains and lake and grass at front i used the blur tool(50%). I used the sharpen tool on the sheep (15%).

Alan sugar-photoshop lesson one
Lasso = L key- I used this to trace round the head
Quickmask = Q key- I used this to refine/change the selection
Modify the edge of selection = Select/Modify/Expand- I used this to make the edges not so rough so it didnt look cut out.
Turn the selection into a layer= cmd/ctrl J- I used this to create a new layer
Move the Layer to another Photo= Move tool =V key drag to another photo- I used this to put the head onto the picture of the bag of sugar
Scale the layer= cmd/ctrl T- I used this to make the image smaller.
Copy the Layer= cmd/ctrl J- I used this to make multiple layers of the head.

Fashion Photography
1. When is an image a portrait/fashion photography?
its a portrait when its more close up of their face and they aren't to posed but they can smile or decide what facial expression to have. Portraits are more personal to the person.
its a fashion photo when they are posing a lot more. They are normally a full body shot so you can see all the clothes and items they are wearing. Has no connection to what the model is actually like.
2. To what degree should an image manipulated to go into a fashion magazine?
The make up and hair is fine but when you get onto Photoshop you shouldn't edit the person for example change their face shape or make their neck longer or change there skin tone. You can change the brightness, contrast, sharpness but not over dramatically that it changes the person.
This is wrong because they have changed the skin tone and they have also changed they eyes. They have made the kid look more bruised and dirty.
3. Is there a clash between the creative and commercial side of fashion photography?
There is a clash between Grace Coddington(creative) and Anna wintour(commercial).
Anna took out some photos and took out a photo that Grace really liked the photo but Anna has full control over it so Grace cant do anything. Also when Anna takes out some photos it cancels out some of the model so you could say that Anna prefers some models to others and works better with them. Or maybe also so are paying more then others.
Anna wins because she has more control.

Portrait
intro
Diane Arbus (Matthaei family portraits)
An artistic youth, she learned photography from her husband, actor Allan Arbus. Together, they found success with fashion work, but Diane soon branched out on her own.
Diane spent a lot of time with people to get enough images so she had enough to make an album. She took photos of families and their children. She took pictures of what she liked, she liked to capture natural looks and she'd put her own story behind the look. She went round a families house on Christmas but the photos she had taken of the girl made it look upset and depressing, where as they wanted them to be happy. If she thought someone looked upset she would want to capture pictures of them looking upset or if they looked happy they would be happy whether they liked it or not.
This is a photo of when she done photo shoots of the"Matthaei family" and she took a few photos of this girl looking quite down and depressed. She liked the look of these photos because she could see more about this person but at the same time you don't really know anything about them. She doesn't really use lighting, she uses natural lighting because she normally went out and about to take photos. She told the person/people she was taking their photo but she talked quite quietly.
This photo is quite ironic because on of the twins looks happy but the other doesn't. The use of the white wall behind them is quite good because it makes the girls stand out a bit more then they would if they were in front of a load of walking people. She told the girls she was taking their photo.
This photo is good because you can see he's happy but he's not really smiling. One of his straps is hanging down and he's out and about maybe playing.

difference between the video footage and the photograph of the "Execution"
The video explains what is happening and why this guy is being shot but the photograph leaves you thinking why is he getting shot, what has he done and stuff like that. It makes you know more about what it was like back then and everything.

Capa and Vaccaro differences
Robert Capa was a photographer for Life Magazine and had a really good camera, where as Tony Vaccaro got given a terrible camera and got told to take the photos so he didn't really have a choice about it. Capa was taking photos that had to look good so they looked more set up but Vaccaro was basically documenting what he could see during the war. Capa had a leica camera which were good cameras, Vaccaro had a Argus C3.
